Martin van Staveren, PhD, MBA, MSc Eng (1964, The Netherlands) holds an MSc in mining engineering, specialization engineering geology, from the Delft University of Technology. Also, he obtained an MBA from the Bradford University, United Kingdom, and a PhD in risk management from the University of Twente, The Netherlands. He is specialized in geotechnical risk management and the role of the human factor in organizations. Worldwide, he worked on a variety of projects, as a geotechnical consultant, project manager, product manager, director, and research leader. He is author of the book Uncertainty and Ground Conditions: A Risk Management Approach (Elsevier, Oxford, 2006), of the dissertation Risk, Innovation & Change: Design Propositions for Implementing Risk Management in Organizations (University of Twente, Enschede, 2009), and of over 50 papers and book chapters.
Currently, Martin van Staveren works as risk management expert in the GeoEngineering department of Deltares, the Dutch Institute for Delta Technology. He provides consultancy, research, training and coaching. He lectures geotechnical risk management at the Delft University of Technology and the University of Twente. He is member of a number of advisory boards and committees. Worldwide, he gives presentations and workshops about geotechnical risk management.
