Tim Chapman

Tim Chapman currently leads Arup's Geotechnical and Tunnelling design group in London. He has over 20 years experience of designing foundations in London and internationally, including particular expertise in the geotechnical design of large buildings with deep basements, railway structures, piling adjacent to tunnels and sports stadia. Tim’s particular areas of interest are large underground rail schemes and the reduction of risk in geotechnical projects. He is committed to improving the efficiency of foundation solutions, and had a key role in the Re-Use of Foundations for Urban Sites project.

Tim wrote the CIRIA report giving design guidance for gravity retaining walls, and played a major role in the Arup team which wrote the Highways Agency and ICE (UK) specifications for piling and embedded retaining walls. He is also responsible for having drawn up Arup's standard contractual procedures and contract documents for ground investigations and piling works
