Gala Dinner

The Geotechnical Challenges in Urban Regeneration Gala Dinner was held on Thursday 27th May at London ExCeL.

The Gala Dinner provided a perfect setting for delegates to meet with peers and reflect on insights from the day’s programme and technical tours. The evening commenced with a welcome drinks reception, followed by a three course dinner. Attendees enjoyed a fantastic evening of networking, musical entertainment and presentations from guest speakers.

Steve Backley OBE, former javelin World Record Holder provided the after-dinner speech. With seven Gold medals, a world record, two Olympic silver medals and one bronze, Steve provided insight into his career as a professional athlete and experience in competing at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Steve is the only British track and field competitor to win medals at three different Olympic Games – Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney.

Attendees also heard from The Siren String Quartet, a unique, energetic and dynamic female string quartet featuring four of London's top string players who are all graduates of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music in London.
